We're currently hiring for the following positions:
On-Site Event Host(ess) - Primarily Weekends
Workshop Chicago, a fast-growing, versatile, and people-focused event venue is seeking a part-time event host(ess). While this is primarily a weekend position, there is an opportunity to host weekday events, too.
Workshop's space consists of two beautiful brick & timber lofts in the same building, located in Chicago's River West neighborhood. Our events range from business meetings and photo shoots to private celebrations and weddings. Our goal is to serve all of our clients tirelessly so they can successfully facilitate any type of event with confidence.
Join a team of motivated, hard-working entrepreneurs, project administrators, relationship managers, and creatives who host some of the most unique, forward-thinking, and established teams and organizations regularly in our space. This is a fantastic position for someone to get a "foot in the door" of the event industry (among others) on both a local and global scale.
Responsibilities: Provide outstanding customer service to venue rental clients before, during, and following their event, along with overseeing the venue while on-site.
You’ll work closely with Workshop's Venue Director and event coordination staff. This role requires excellent communication and customer service skills, patience and grace under pressure, a friendly smile, and a strong work ethic. You'll be responsible for event set-up, tear down, troubleshooting, directing event organizers and guests, and communicating with vendors and building management. You'll also be trained on telling the Workshop story and our sales approach, as many event attendees ask for more information about hosting their own event with us while on-site.
To qualify for this role, you must have 2+ years of professional experience. Specific experience in the event industry is beneficial, but not required. The role does require some light manual labor, and occasional long days and late nights.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Arranging the space(s) prior to a client’s arrival (must be able to lift 45 lbs.)
Assisting with food, drinks, and AV set-up
Cleanup and trash removal
Loading items in/out of the space
Operating a service elevator
Monitoring, restocking, and ordering supplies
Closing down and securing the space(s) following events
Provide timely feedback to the Venue Director about how the event went and any client follow-up items
Occasional sales tours (if needed)
Hours: While the number of hours will vary from week-to-week depending upon our event schedule, you can expect approximately 5-15 hours per weekend on average. Consistent weekend hours are available Friday evening through Sunday evening, and additional weekday hours are available periodically if interested. Late nights and weekend flexibility are required for this role; however, we give plenty of advance notice whenever possible for scheduling purposes. For larger events, you would be working with an additional on-site host(ess).
Compensation: $15-$30 per hour, depending upon the nature of the event, timing, and the day of the week. Additional staff perks include a free co-working membership (when our two loft spaces aren’t rented privately, an incredible group of creatives and entrepreneurs use our shared office), and occasional free access to exclusive events. Plus, we have free coffee!
