Event Sales and Client Manager (Short-Term) - Weddings or Private Events

Workshop Chicago, a fast-growing, versatile, and people-focused venue is seeking a part-time, experienced client relations manager to join our sales and leadership team. This position is for short-term maternity leave coverage from mid-April to Labor Day, but has the potential to grow into a permanent part-time role.

Workshop's space consists of two beautiful brick & timber lofts in the same building, located in Chicago's River West neighborhood. Our events range from business meetings and photo shoots to private celebrations and weddings. Our goal is to serve all of our clients tirelessly so they can successfully facilitate any type of event with confidence.

We're seeking an experienced client relations associate, looking to join a tight-knit team in a capacity that offers flexibility and potential for a long-term role. The business, relationship, and growth opportunities for this position are broad.

Responsibilities: You would manage all aspects of our client relationships for either wedding-related events or private events from initial inquiry to post-event follow-up. You’ll be a client’s primary point of contact and join a team of representatives who focus on sales, planning, and event execution for our business events and photo/video production.

Much of this role can be accomplished remotely, although some on-site availability is required to facilitate tours, team meetings, and event coordination. Significant email and phone correspondence, as well as timely response, is expected. Some evening and weekend work may be required depending upon a client’s availability to visit our space.

This position requires excellent communication and customer service skills, patience, a friendly smile, and a strong work ethic. Specific experience in the event industry and client relations is preferred.

Specific responsibilities, include, but are not limited to:

  • Responding daily to rental inquiries and client questions by email or phone (we aim to respond to all client emails within 24 hours)

  • Scheduling and facilitating venue tours and follow-up

  • Understanding and sharing thorough knowledge of our venue and services to help clients envision their event

  • Preparing client proposals and invoices

  • Coordinating on-site coverage and other day-of rental management

  • Capturing each step of the process using our online client management platforms

  • Appropriate follow-up and ongoing/recurring client relations

  • Occasionally sharing client management responsibilities with other staff when needed

  • Working closely with the Venue Director to best meet each client’s unique needs

Hours: While the number of hours will vary from week-to-week depending upon the volume of inquiries, tours, and our booking schedule, it’s approximately 15 - 25 hours per week on average. While daily work is required Monday-Friday and occasionally on weekends, the timing is relatively flexible and the location can be mostly remote.

Compensation: This role is commission-based, although commission is shared by the entire sales team and based upon the company’s net revenue. In addition, monthly incentive bonuses are paid out based upon the percentage of revenue you personally generate, and there is the opportunity for additional compensation for day-of event hosting/supervising as needed. Staff perks include a free co-working membership (when our two loft spaces aren’t rented out, a fun group of creatives and entrepreneurs use our shared office). Plus, we have free coffee!

To apply, please email your resume and cover letter to Colleen Pratt, Venue Director, at events@workshopchicago.co.

On-Site Event Host(ess) - Primarily Weekends

Workshop Chicago, a fast-growing, versatile, and people-focused event venue is seeking a part-time event host(ess). While this is primarily a weekend position, there is an opportunity to host weekday events, too.

Join a team of motivated, hard-working entrepreneurs, project administrators, relationship managers, and creatives who host some of the most unique, forward-thinking, and established teams and organizations regularly in our space. This is a fantastic position for someone to get a "foot in the door" of the event industry (among others) on both a local and global scale.

Responsibilities: Provide outstanding customer service to venue rental clients before, during, and following their event, along with overseeing the venue while on-site.

You’ll work closely with Workshop's Venue Director and event coordination staff. This role requires excellent communication and customer service skills, patience and grace under pressure, a friendly smile, and a strong work ethic. You'll be responsible for event set-up, tear down, troubleshooting, directing event organizers and guests, and communicating with vendors and building management. You'll also be trained on telling the Workshop story and our sales approach, as many event attendees ask for more information about hosting their own event with us while on-site.

To qualify for this role, you must have 2+ years of professional experience. Specific experience in the event industry is beneficial, but not required. The role does require some light manual labor, and occasional long days and late nights.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Arranging the space(s) prior to a client’s arrival (must be able to lift 45 lbs.)

  • Assisting with food, drinks, and AV set-up

  • Cleanup and trash removal

  • Loading items in/out of the space

  • Operating a service elevator

  • Monitoring, restocking, and ordering supplies

  • Closing down and securing the space(s) following events

  • Provide timely feedback to the Venue Director about how the event went and any client follow-up items

  • Occasional sales tours (if needed)

Hours: While the number of hours will vary from week-to-week depending upon our event schedule, you can expect approximately 5-15 hours per weekend on average. Consistent weekend hours are available Friday evening through Sunday evening, and additional weekday hours are available periodically if interested. Late nights and weekend flexibility are required for this role; however, we give plenty of advance notice whenever possible for scheduling purposes. For larger events, you would be working with an additional on-site host(ess).

Compensation: $15-$30 per hour, depending upon the nature of the event, timing, and the day of the week. Additional staff perks include a free co-working membership (when our two loft spaces aren’t rented privately, an incredible group of creatives and entrepreneurs use our shared office), and occasional free access to exclusive events. Plus, we have free coffee!
