TimSchraeder.com -- I technically don't have an official company, I just work for myself!
Founder/CEO, Professional Tweeter
I am passionate to help people spread ideas that matter.
Tell us what excites you most about your work:
I wear a lot of different hats for my clients, but in general I focus on the area of social media. As social media has grown, so has the opportunity for individuals and organizations to see their message reach more people. I love the opportunity I have to help people "get" social media and see their idea, project, or cause advance as I work with them to develop their online presence. My work has given me the freedom to be my own boss, choose the clients I work with, and work from anywhere there's free Wi-fi. I do a bit of everything from day-to-day management of social media accounts, social media strategy and consulting, and help develop marketing campaigns for product launches and campaigns. I think the diversity of clients and projects invigorates me and I love every new challenge that comes with every new day as social media changes and adapts so rapidly. Things are always changing, and I always love a new challenge and discovering ways to help my clients succeed in connecting with their audience and sharing their ideas.
Tell us about someone who has influenced your work:
I know it's a bit trite to say Seth Godin, but he truly has had a huge influence in my work. As a faithful reader of his books and blog for years, I've learned so much from his insight. A couple of years ago I applied to be a part of his Alternative MBA Program, where over 600 people applied for the opportunity to work with him for 6 months. I was one of 25 finalists that was invited to come and spend the day with him in NYC to determine who would be picked. While I didn't make the final cut, that experience gave me so much affirmation and courage to do what I am doing now.
Tell us about one of your favorite projects to have participated in:
This year I worked on some pretty remarkable projects. I worked with 2 authors who saw their books hit the New York Times best sellers list and worked with 2 artists whose albums were in the top 10 on iTunes. But, one of my favorite projects this year was having the opportunity to travel to Japan for a couple of weeks and work with a small crew to do a documentary film about the efforts to rebuild in the Tohoku region, which was impacted by the earthquake and tsunami in 2011. The film, Tohoku Tomo, is scheduled to debut in March 2014. Being able to see what happened, hear the stories of people's commitment, and witness the beauty of the human spirit [and to play a small role in telling that story!] was an immense honor. I can't wait for people to see this film and be as inspired as I was by what's happening there.
Tell us your favorite winter activity:
Like most Chicagoans, I enjoy going into hibernation during the winter. But really, I love to hang out with my friends, do movie nights and dinner parties, and use Uber to get all around town. I also enjoy plenty of bourbon, coffee, and red wine to keep myself warm [separately, in moderation]. And I enjoy watching the snow... from indoors.
